About Brew Coffee Methods
My Coffee Wake-Up Call (Literally)
I'll never forget standing in my kitchen in 2016, staring at my expensive espresso machine that produced coffee I could barely drink. I'd spent $800 on equipment, followed the instructions to the letter, and somehow my coffee tasted worse than the $2 cup from the gas station down the street.
That moment of frustration changed everything for me.
I realized I'd been approaching coffee all wrong. I was chasing expensive gear without understanding the fundamentals of how different coffee brewing methods actually worked. So I did what any obsessed person would do—I went down the rabbit hole. Hard.
I started with a simple French press and worked my way through every brewing method I could get my hands on. Pour-over, AeroPress, cold brew, siphon, Moka pot—you name it, I've probably burned through a few pounds of beans testing it. Some mornings my kitchen looked like a coffee lab, with three different brewing setups going at once while I took notes on extraction times and water temperatures.
The transformation wasn't overnight. It took years of experimenting, countless mediocre cups, and slowly learning what actually mattered versus what was just marketing hype. I learned from baristas, watched hundreds of tutorials, joined online coffee communities, and most importantly, I paid attention to what worked and what didn't.
What started as fixing my own bad coffee became a genuine passion for understanding why each coffee brewing method produces different results and helping others skip the expensive mistakes I made.
What I've Learned Along the Way
Over the past eight years, I've tested more than 250 different coffee products and brewing tools. I've brewed coffee in 15+ different methods, from traditional Turkish coffee to modern immersion techniques.
I've spent countless hours researching the science behind extraction, talking with roasters about how different beans respond to various brewing methods, and connecting with home brewers and professionals who've generously shared their knowledge.
My approach has always been hands-on. I don't write about a brewing method until I've used it regularly for at least a month. I don't recommend equipment I haven't personally tested. And I'm not afraid to say when something doesn't live up to the hype—even if it's popular.
The real expertise came from making mistakes. Lots of them. Over-extracted pour-overs. Under-extracted French press. Cold brew that tasted like dirty water. Each failure taught me something valuable about how coffee brewing methods actually work in real kitchens, not just in theory.
